Running after hearing weird sounds.

Reasons I’m trying Arc Raiders:

  • The River Raid, NASA, and Rebel Alliance-like graphic design.
  • Impressive sounds that first entered my ears watching Twitch streams of the game, and now having been immersed in it myself.
  • I like combat versus mostly robots in video games currently.
  • It feels good to support video games promoting a wider perspective of humanity, promoting diversity and people of all cultures, working together rather than fighting each other. Perhaps shockingly to many, there is no gender selection when picking your avatar in the beginning of the game.
  • The failed utopia us-versus-the-robots setting is interesting and I’m curious where the story will go. I like the lush cinematography, especially the forward motion of your avatars arm into a forward! fist as the hatch of your train-tube-thing is closed before a session begins.
  • Traversal of the environment is interesting, too, with a solid feel to running (stamina matters, at least in the beginning), jumps and scrables over ledges, and dives behind cover.

Reasons for concern:

  • PvP’s burned me out after a few chicken dinners and too many battle royales with cheese in Plunkbat. Will it be balanced so that most work together against the AI, or will it become another deathmatch player-killer-cheater festival? It’s been good to me so far, with only one player shooting at me in a few sessions. Maybe the aggression-based matchmaking is working?
  • Excessive inventory management, perhaps?
  • When hovering over inventory items the background of the information window is too bright.
  • Too many other good games to play.

So this may be a few streams, or many. I suspect many, though I hope PvE coop gameplay is added, as too many of my friends won’t play anything that has other players who may kill you. They’ve too been burned too many times. Let us fight the robots instead, if we choose.

  • F-10 disables the UI HUD.
