Flight simulators are rather complex pieces of entertainment and training software, and when one loses keybindings, also known as controller mappings or simply keyboard shortcuts, perhaps due to errant operating system updates, hard disk drive crashes, or other phenomena, it is not uncommon to also lose one’s mind.
In service of mental health for all sim fanatics everywhere, here are the keybinding locations for various simulators I have so that we can find them and back them up regularly, without ever forgetting to do so.
Balsa Model Flight Sim
Install_Drive_Letter:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BALSA Model Flight Simulator\inputsettings.cfg
Digital Combat Simulator (DCS)
Open Beta version:
Elite Dangerous (ED)
C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
Thank you Talkittynora.
IL-2 Sturmovik (IL2)
Install_Drive_Letter:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input
Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS)
The keybinds are, we are told, saved by the gods in the clouds, though we suspect they may also be somewhere in our machine. If you know, please tell me and I will dance and chant, update this post, and credit you, whilst cursing the MS gods!
And thank you, Icebird4all, for the valiant attempts at helping me find it!
Star Citizen (SC)
Install_Drive_Letter:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE\USER\Client\0\Controls\Mappings
Track IR Profiles
War Thunder (WT)
The default keybinds are in:
Install_Drive_Letter\Users\your_user_name\Documents\My Games\WarThunder\Saves\LotsOfRandomNumbers\production\machine.blk, but it is recommended you save your keybindings to the directory of your choice by going to Controls → Disk symbol → Export. See here for my own WT keybindings.
Thank you, happy simulating, peace out!
